1080p vs 1440p: Which Resolution Should You Build For in 2026?

4 September 2026 · The GG Machines Team

We ask every customer the same early question: what screen are you plugging this into? The answer changes the whole build.

1080p: the value sweet spot

An RTX 5060 or RX 9060 XT drives high frame rates at 1080p in almost everything. Pair it with a 165–180Hz monitor and competitive shooters feel fantastic. Total system cost stays reasonable.

1440p: the new default

27" 1440p monitors are now affordable and much sharper. To get high refresh rates in newer games, step up to an RTX 5070 or RX 9070-class card.

4K: go big or go home

4K at high settings is RTX 5080 territory and up. Upscaling helps a lot, but budget for it properly.

Not sure? Visit the showroom and try a few monitors side by side. It is the easiest way to decide.
